One of the people on board the private jet when it crashed to the ground was Nathalia Filgueiras, 20, the plane’s co-pilot, CBS News, the BBC’s media partner, confirmed.

Filgueiras flew planes before he knew how to drive a car and earned his pilot’s license at the age of 17, according to media reports.

“She loved freedom,” her mother, Camila Corteleti, told the New York Times on Monday. “It was completely different to see the world from above.”

The BBC attempted to contact several family members to confirm Filgueiras’ identity, with one briefly stating: “I’m not ready to talk.” »

In a 2023 interview with a local CBS News affiliate, Filgueiras spoke proudly of receiving her pilot’s license while she was still in high school.

“I like being different from everyone else,” she said. “Some people think it’s weird that I can fly planes, but I can’t drive a car, I mean, I can, but a lot of people think it’s funny.”

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement this weekend that all nine passengers on board the plane died in the incident.
