A NYCHA worker was killed by a falling tree in Brooklyn Saturday afternoon — the first casualty in the Northeast as it battered the Atlantic coast with extreme wind gusts.
The 56-year-old man suffered “full-body trauma” when high winds brought down the tree near 700 Euclid Avenue in East New York around 3:30 p.m., a police spokesperson told The Post.
“We can confirm that this individual was an employee of NYCHA,” a NYCHA spokesperson told The Post in a statement.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and extend our deepest condolences to his family and the NYCHA community.”
The unidentified worker was transported in critical condition to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5 p.m., police said.
NYCHA declined to confirm whether the man was at work when he was killed.
Wind gust speeds reached up to 60 mph on Saturday – and were expected to reach up to 80 mph in some areas on Sunday.
The Parks Department told the Post that employees were working 12-hour shifts over the weekend to respond to tree damage caused by the storm.
As of Saturday evening, the department had received 371 reports of downed trees, but many of those reports were duplicates.
