Pete Davidson used multiple drugs and “cooked” ketamine at the height of his addiction, the comedian has revealed.
“It was K. I was taking liquid and cooking it. And I was taking acid and shrooms and whippets and smoking weed all day and eating pills every day,” he recalled in an interview with Variety published Wednesday.
“It was scary because I didn’t feel high. I felt high when I was not while doing it, then I was like this is a huge problem.
The actor shared that he hit rock bottom in the summer of 2023, after the release of “Bupkis,” an autobiographical series starring Davidson as himself. This summer also marked a year since his departure from “Saturday Night Live,” and so he lacked structure in his life.
According to Davidson, “playing alone and constantly living in his own shit” was a traumatic experience for him, as he had to revisit some of the darkest moments of his life and so he turned to drugs to numb the pain.
The “SNL” alum shared that a FaceTime call from his concerned mother, Amy, is what finally convinced him to get sober and enter rehab.
“She told me her biggest fear was waking up one day to see on the news that something bad had happened to me,” Davidson, 32, recalled. “I reached a point where I couldn’t do that to him anymore.”
He checked himself into a rehabilitation center and also left “Bupkis,” despite the Peacock show being renewed for a second season.
“I was part of the problem of what I hated the most, which was the invasiveness of my personal life. I was just throwing it in and continuing the narrative,” Davidson admitted.
Although he’s been to rehab several times before, Davidson said this time he’s taking sobriety even more seriously.
“When I turned 30 and I was there, it was a really low point. There wasn’t much happening in my career and I was like, ‘This f—ing sucks.’ I can’t do it anymore.” And it can’t be for anyone or a job. You have to really want it, and when you’re done, you’re done.
The “King of Staten Island” star told the outlet that he’s sober now, but he drinks about “four beers a year.”
“I don’t like drugs anymore. It’s been two or three years since I’ve been doing really hard stuff and about a year or more because of weed. Oddly enough, the hardest thing to quit was weed,” he said.
Davidson has previously opened up about how difficult it was for her to quit smoking marijuana, but told Variety that welcoming her daughter allowed her to finally kick the habit.
“And now it’s easy because I have a kid. Every time I have a thought, I look at the background of my phone and say, ‘Oh yeah, no.’
Davidson welcomed his daughter, Scottie, with ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt in December 2025, after the couple began dating in March 2025. The former couple split in May 2026.
Earlier this month, Davidson shared the drastic changes he made in his life after becoming a dad and how it solidified his decision to stay sober.
“I behave differently now. Every decision is different,” he told Interview Magazine.
“I want my daughter to be proud of both her parents,” he said. “When she starts going to school and having friends, I want her to be proud of where she comes from, and I want her to feel comfortable and safe.”
Davidson vowed he would “do whatever it takes to be there for (his) daughter.”
