Player Ratings: Roma 3–4 Real Madrid
Thibaut Courtois: 6. Three goals conceded and just three long balls completed in 18 attempts looks ugly on paper, but how much of it was his fault? Real Madrid’s errors left them exposed defensively, while a lack of passing left them with few options in possession. He made four saves, a few routines and a few more demanding ones.
Denzel Dumfries: 3. Often caught out of position, uncomfortable under pressure and unable to offer anything meaningful going forward. A tough night on both sides of the ball.
Ibrahima Konaté: 6. Much of Real Madrid’s preparation came through him, with passes ranging from sharp to sometimes very poor. The midfielders in front of him did not help enough, hiding too often rather than providing an outlet. He looked more comfortable once Bernardo Silva and Arda Güler came on.
Antonio Rudiger: 8. Scored the game-winner and finished with a game-high seven clearances. A decisive contribution on one side and an important presence on the other.
Marc Cucurella: 5. Struggled to deal with the overloads created by Soulé, Mancini and Dybala, often with little support. He also missed a big chance in the first half when handing the ball to Mbappé seemed like the best option.
Fede Valverde: 6.5. Real Madrid needed him to take more control in the first half, but he was not available enough to help the team play under pressure. Once again he looked much better after Mourinho moved him to right-back in the second half.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: 5. Sometimes reckless in possession and unable to provide Cucurella with the defensive support he needed. I didn’t do enough to stabilize the team.
Yan Diomandé: 7.5. Came to life after moving left in the second half. Finished with an assist and led the game in completed dribbles (six) and interceptions (five), contributing with his ability to beat defenders and regain possession.
Jude Bellingham: 5. He had good moments with the ball and worked to pressure, track runners and defensively organize those around him. However, he was unable to impose his usual influence on the game.
Vinicius Junior: 2. Extremely inefficient performance. His reckless move in midfield led to Roma’s second goal and left Mourinho furious on the touchline.
Kylian Mbappé: 6. Scored an important goal and found better spaces in the second half. His touch disappointed him considerably before the break, however, limiting what he could do with the opportunities presented to him.
Endrick: 8.5. A game-changing performance coming off the bench. His runs down the right gave Real Madrid a completely different attacking dynamic, and his headed goal was particularly impressive considering he was one of the shortest players on the pitch. Won the official Man of the Match award.
Arda Guler: 8. He immediately brought calm and intelligence to the Real Madrid team. Finished with two assists and delivered excellent set pieces, giving the team both greater control and a reliable source of danger.
Bernardo Silva: 7. Brought the calm, ball retention and defensive coverage that Real Madrid lacked. Helped make the team more secure in possession and better connected without it.
Alvaro Carreras: 6.5. A quiet appearance with only four passes. Mainly occupied his position around the halfway line, providing cover to limit Roma’s breaking opportunities.
Carlos Espí: 7.5. I made it back with a goal. Continues to give Real Madrid exactly what they need off the bench.
