PS5 game Gang of Dragon from Yakuza Creator and his new studio is officially dead

Gang of Dragon, the Yakuza title that Toshiro Nagoshi planned to make with a newly created developer under NetEase, will never see the light of day. Nagoshi Studio is now officially closed, as of October 31, 2026.
This news had been expected for some time, as reports dating back to March 2026 detailed that publisher NetEase was withdrawing funding. The game was only revealed a few months ago at Game rewards. We now know for sure that the studio and the PS5 game are both gone, as a notice has appeared in Japan’s official Kanpo newspaper (via Gematsu).
Nagoshi Studio was dissolved by shareholder resolution on October 31, 2026.
Previous reports claimed that NetEase stopped funding the project after revealing that an additional 7 billion yen (~$44 million) would be needed to complete Gang of Dragon and bring it to market. The publisher has reduced its efforts in the international video game sector and Nagoshi Studio has been a victim of these reductions.
At the time of the reveal, Gang of Dragon was billed as a melee action-adventure title set in Shinjuku, Tokyo. “Shin Ji-seong – played by renowned Asian actor Ma Dong-seok – is a high-ranking member of a Korean crime syndicate based in Kabukicho. As he explores the streets of Shinjuku, Shin becomes embroiled in underground conflicts and forges intense human bonds that push him to confront his own sense of purpose.”
This work will now never see the light of day.
