PS5 Homebrew AI Gold Rush Is Why GTA 6 Can’t Be Hacked

The vibe-coding epidemic has undermined all video game publishers and developers. It doesn’t matter if you’re one of the big boys, like Nintendo and Microsoft, or a an independent developer self-publishes your own game; AI does not discriminate.

But with PlayStation, things feel a little personal. Sony’s decision to stop manufacturing physical PS5 media spurred the Claude-wielding homebrew scene into action, which may explain the sudden emergence of PS5 tools that allow users to emulate PS2 and PS3 games via discs.

However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in the PlayStation homebrew scene. The community is partially divided on AI’s sudden ability to reverse engineer and open anything he can get his hands on it, and there’s no better proof of that than the story of 2tonejordy: the PlayStation hacker the community accuses of ruining its hacking chances Grand Theft Auto VI on the day of release.

As recently covered by IGNJordy revealed on X on October 14, he had received a rather large sum of $50,000 from Sony. For what? Because he had reported a hypervisor exploit to Sony via the bug bounty website HackerOne. A hypervisor exploit is a big deal when it comes to consoles, because bypassing it usually allows hackers to access a console at the hardware level.

Simply put, a PlayStation 5 hypervisor exploit would allow easy access to pirated games. However, it’s important to note the timing here, because the fact that Jordy reported this on October 14 means that Grand Theft Auto VIwhich will be released on November 19, cannot be hacked using this same exploit.

Naturally, people immediately turned against Jordy. “You took GTA 6 away from everyone, then you show up with $50,000 saying it’s enough to buy the game,” read a comment on Jordy’s post on X. “What a great person you are, aren’t you?”

However, while many accused Jordy of “joking” for Sony and ruining their chances of getting GTA VI for free, it’s not quite that simple. After discovering the exploit, Jordy initially chose to keep it a secret. Indeed, the hypervisor exploit was originally discovered by another well-known homebrew hacker, Andy “theflow0” Nguyen.

wow i woke up to tldr drama the hv bug i reported to h1 is the stream he asked me not to report it and i said i won’t then someone found the bug with ai a few hours later so i reported it

But like Jordy explainsomeone else eventually discovered the hypervisor exploit, and just like Jordy, they also used AI to find it. So he decided to report it to Sony and cash in before the competition could, since Nguyen didn’t seem willing to do it himself.

And considering Jordy apparently plans to use the money to support his “terminally ill“Mother, it’s a little hard to blame him for his decision. Even if the third person who discovered the hypervisor exploit hadn’t reported it to Sony, someone else would have eventually. If AI had suddenly experienced its reverse engineering growth spurt in late November, instead of late September, GTA VI likely would have been released before the hypervisor exploit was reported. Vibrational coding gives, and vibrational coding takes away.
