QUEEN’s BRIAN MAY doesn’t want to tour anymore: ‘I think maybe 50 years will be enough’
QUEEN guitarist Brian May revealed to the British Times that he had finished his tour. He said: “I made the decision 18 months ago not to tour again. A close family friend died when we were in the States, so I said to my tour manager, ‘I’m just going to stay home for a few days and come back.’ She looked me in the eyes and said, “You know you can’t do that.”
“I love acting, I love traveling, but the trade-off is sacrificing your freedom,” he explained. “I have a wife, grandchildren and I want to do a lot of astrophysics, so I think maybe 50 years will be enough.”
The 79 year old man Can did not rule out keeping QUEEN living by other methods, saying, “We want to do something quite revolutionary.” ABBA did it (with digital avatars), but in this sense. …Last year I went to the Sphere (in Las Vegas), my juices started flowing and I sketched out a whole QUEEN to show. I think an immersive experience is still on the agenda and could conquer time and space, but currently you can’t achieve that without AI (artificial intelligence) and I have serious doubts about that. … Data centers are a major scourge and must be fought.”
Last July, QUEEN drummer Roger Taylor was requested by “The Rock Show with Shaun Keaveny” on BBC Radio 2 on the possibility of QUEEN return to the stage at some point in the not too distant future. The 77-year-old rocker replied: “Well, that East a big brewing machine, if you know what I mean. But yes, really, I think it’s more due to Brian than me. I love playing live. I appreciate it, always have. That’s really how he feels about it. So if we both want to do it, I’d be happy to. But we’ll see. Never say never. We have been working with (singer) for a while Adam Lambertwho has the most incredible voice.”
In June, Lambert was requested by Smooth radio when fans will have the chance to see him play with QUEEN Again. He replied: “There is nothing in the books with QUEEN. We never had a conversation that we were done, but nothing is really planned at the moment. It’s sort of up to them. They are the boss. I’m the guest. If they call me and say, “Hey, we want to tour again,” I’ll say, “Yeah, sure, I’d love to.” »
He was asked “how cool is it that he got the QUEEN his concert as his “side job” for so many years, Adam – who released his sixth full-length studio album, “Adam”in July via his own label, distributed via The orchard — said: “I’m lucky. I’m very lucky. Everything has worked out well for (me). I have no complaints. I also love that I’m making my own music now. I mean, it serves two different kinds of purposes for me. Dating QUEEN is a huge honor. This is a huge opportunity to celebrate one of the greatest (end QUEEN singer) Freddie Mercurythat I love, and to give Brian And Roger a kind of ease to go and perform their songs and bask in their legacy, and for the audience to sing along with every song. It’s like the best audiences thanks to QUEENit’s music. And then, when I manage to do my business, it itch differently. I can write about my own life. I co-wrote a lot of this album, and it’s about me, and it’s who I am, and it’s original, and it’s new. So they’re just two different types of things. I’m lucky to have both.”
Last January, Brian apparently, close the door QUEEN“America is a dangerous place right now, so you have to take that into account.
“It’s very sad because I feel like QUEEN “I grew up in America and we love it, but it’s not what it used to be,” said the QUEEN added the guitarist. “Right now, everyone is thinking twice before going.”
Can did not specify what he considers dangerous in the United States and which would prevent QUEEN to go back there again.
As for when Can And Taylor – who toured with “American Idol” alum Lambert since 2012 under the stage name QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT – might return to playing live shows, Can said: “I don’t know when QUEEN will be back on stage, it’s an unknown. We’ll take it day by day. »
Can also hinted at possible new QUEEN music, telling the Daily Mail: “It was time to take a break and spend time with family, to take stock. But you should never say never about not coming back, rebuilding QUEEN Two come back, and there are a few things you didn’t hear. »
Canthe wife, actress and singer of Anita Dobsonsaid QUEEN would no longer embark on large-scale tours due to health issues and the fact that the band members were “getting older”.
Dobsoncomments came after Taylor said rolling stone magazine that he, Can And Lambert had no intention of organizing a final farewell tour.
“I don’t think we’re done,” he said. “And I don’t think we’re going to do one last farewell tour. Because that never was, was it?”
When you press if QUEEN will be “at rest forever,” he replied: “At some point we will be.”
In 2024 Brian revealed that he suffered a minor stroke. Although the episode initially left the rock legend, now 79, unable to use his left arm, he has since regained enough movement to be able to play music again.
CanThe stroke came four years after a “small” heart attack. At the time, he said he was shocked to realize he wasn’t as healthy as he thought and was “very close to death.” He discovered that three arteries were “congested and at risk of blocking the blood supply to my heart”, and subsequently underwent surgery to install three stents – tiny tubes intended to keep the blocked arteries open.
Six years ago, Can had to be hospitalized after tearing his butt “to shreds” while gardening. As a result, he developed severe sciatica and suffered what he later described as a “little heart attack” from the medication. Can then had a bad reaction to his heart attack medication and almost died. More recently, Brian underwent cataract surgery.
He later said he believed the coronavirus may have played a role in his heart attack because of the way the virus thickens the blood. As a result, he said he led a “ridiculously cautious” life with Dobson – who he credits with saving his life.
“She was incredible,” he told the Daily Express in 2020. “I couldn’t do anything and she just fixed me up, so I’ll always be indebted to her; she did an incredible job on me.”
