Resident Evil 5 and 6 Remakes Seem Confirmed by Capcom Exec
The comments, from the recently launched Biohazard 30th Special Mook (via RENews on X), indicate that Capcom developed Resident Evil in two tracks: the numbered titles allow players to experience the series’ ongoing story, while the remake series allows them to relive the past. One day the remake series will catch up with the era of numbered titles, and we’re already thinking about what we’ll do when that happens. It may be that no remake plans were previously planned, but recent successes with older franchises and remakes have led Capcom to change its mind and commit to more Resident Evil remakes, as was discussed in a recent press release.

The executive goes on to say that the reappearance of old themes, locations, and names in games like Village and Requiem was part of Capcom’s preparations for when the two series would overlap.
In fact, we are gradually preparing for it from around Resident Evil Village. The appearance of names like Umbrella and Spencer, as well as the return of Raccoon City in Requiem, also sets the stage for a crossover.
One of the reasons we consider 7 a turning point for the series is that it’s also the title in which we started working on this type of setup. We initially included these elements with the feeling that it was fan service, but users were much more thrilled with it than we expected, and they even began to analyze the thoughts that the development team had kept private. So, as a series, we decided to meet user expectations and took this setup further in Village and Requiem.
