Richard Riehle, actor in Office space, Bridesmaids, Casino, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo And The Earth Mandied. He was 78 years old.
Riehle played Tom Smykowski, a cynical Initech product manager, in Mike Judge’s 1999 satirical comedy. Office spacesharing credits with Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, Stephen Root and Gary Cole.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of our beloved client, Richard Riehle, this past weekend,” Riehle representatives said in a statement to Deadline.
The statement continued: “A remarkable actor whose career in theater, film and television spanned nearly five decades and more than 400 projects, Richard leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. Beyond his immense talent, he will be remembered for his genuine goodness, his boundless kindness and his unwavering generosity, particularly to emerging actors and filmmakers, whom he encouraged and supported at every opportunity. Our industry has lost an exceptional talent and our community has lost a truly man wonderful. We ask that his family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
Riehle was born May 12, 1948, in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He first entered the entertainment industry in the western starring John Wayne. Cogburn Rooster in 1975.
