Ron Howard prepares the TV series “Robopocalypse”

More than a decade after its last attempt, a new film adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s 2011 book “Robopocalypse” is ready to plug.
Imagine Entertainment and Weed Road are developing a television series with Ron Howard attached to direct the pilot and Akiva Goldsman set to star and write the pilot.
Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment will produce the series with Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Greg Lessans and Rachel Wizenberg.
For much of the early 2010s, Spielberg was tasked with directing a film adaptation – optioning the book before publication while Drew Goddard was hired to write the screenplay.
In 2013, the project was put on hold as Spielberg turned his attention to directing “Bridge of Spies,” and was postponed indefinitely after a year. Michael Bay tried to launch a version in 2018, but again, it didn’t take off.
Spielberg revealed earlier this year that the reason for the film’s failure was the sheer cost of the project, which would have been a “business end.”
The story centers on humanity’s war against robots controlled by a powerful AI that nearly wipes out the human race. The scattered remnants unite for the first time in a determined effort to fight back.
No networks or streamers are involved in the TV version yet.
