Selma Blair apologizes for mid-flight meltdown that led to her arrest
Selma Blair broke her silence on social media Friday following her arrest following an in-flight seizure earlier this month.
“Hi, it’s me. I know I’ve been quiet for a few weeks since October 11th,” the “Legally Blonde” actress said in an Instagram video. “You deserve to hear from me directly, and I’m sorry it took so long.
“There is a legal matter pending and my lawyers have asked me not to say anything about this day, and I am listening to them. I take this very seriously,” she continued. “What I can tell you, however, is very simple and it is the truest thing I know about myself. Not a single day in my life have I intended to hurt or frighten anyone.”
Blair then apologized to those she “disappointed”, “hurt”, “scared” and “alarmed”.
“I’m so sorry,” the 54-year-old said emotionally. “And for the people who wrote, called or sent well wishes of love or care, it meant everything to me and my son, who is my world – just like Scout, who is also doing well.”
Blair said she would focus on “taking care of (her) health and (her) son,” Arthur Saint Bleick, as well as those who support her “all with gratitude and love.”
The “Cruel Intentions” star was arrested earlier this month after allegedly punching a flight attendant and biting another aboard a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York.
She was allegedly placed under restraint while still on board the plane before being taken into custody upon landing.
Blair allegedly kicked a Port Authority police officer in the head several times while he was being taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
She was also accused of assaulting a hospital nurse, who later filed a complaint against her.
911 dispatch audio of the incident captured the pilot requesting medical assistance and law enforcement officers as the plane landed to deal with an “abusive” passenger.
The pilot also noted that the “disruptive” passenger left one flight attendant with a bloody nose and another with visible bite marks.
Additional audio captured Blair screaming after being pulled from the plane.
At the time, Blair’s rep told Page Six that she had “experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.”
Delta Airlines also addressed the incident in a statement to Page Six, saying: “Delta has no tolerance for unruly or illegal behavior because the safety of our customers and crew always comes first. »
In court shortly after the incident, Blair pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault and was released on bail. If convicted, she faces two to seven years in prison.
Her lawyers attributed the incident to her missing medications prescribed to treat her multiple sclerosis, as well as to the fact that she had worked “long hours” and “exhaustive hours” on set in the days leading up to the theft.
“These factors, coupled with the altitude, resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation,” said one of his attorneys, Shawn Barnes. “This was not an intentional attack.”
Blair later broke his silence on the incident through his representative, who suggested there was “much more to this story”.
