After being closed to the public for sending two of its passengers to the emergency room in July, the X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain is “permanently retired,” according to a short blog post published Tuesday on Six Flags Entertainment Corporation website. Brian Oerding, president of Six Flags Magic Mountain, wrote: “Although X2 has consistently passed a multitude of safety tests, we have decided to close the ride because we believe it is the right thing to do. Ride safety is the cornerstone of our business, and when we see customer confidence impacted, we take it seriously.”

Indeed, despite Six Flags’ efforts to reduce the threat of the X2 (originally launched as the This definitive closure occurs after three parties recently filed a lawsuit alleging brain damage against amusement park company and seat maker X2 S&S Worldwide, something people should probably know before riding a ride at Six Flags. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health also opened an investigation in the wounds surrounding X2.

Among the affected passengers – first reported by CNN in August, alleging that Six Flags offered the families of the injured X2 a delicious McDonald’s meal— were Pamela Guillen, 40, who had to undergo emergency brain surgery and relearn how to walk and talk, and Naomi Greer-Wilkinson, 25, who, as of this writing, remains in a coma. More legal problems are piling up for the company: Lawyers, at a recent press conference, said at least “100 additional people” have come forward with cases of “brain hemorrhages and other head injuries” linked to the X2 over the past two years. by CNNwhich also notes reported deaths associated with the ride, including one as recent as June 2022.

As for the future of Six Flags, accountability doesn’t appear to be on the horizon. Here’s Oerding again: “Our goal is to create FUN, thrills and a lifetime of memories by creating unforgettable experiences supported by comprehensive safety policies.
