
Skydance defines games, experiences, products and HR teams
Skydance President Andy Gordon has solidified his leadership positions in key areas outside of the newly merged company’s TV and film divisions, including games and experiences, product and publishing, human resources and global operations.
Additionally, Skydance revealed that Paramount and WBD’s games and experiences divisions will be merged into a single team that will oversee projects based on intellectual property ranging from Paramount’s “Star Trek,” “Mission: Impossible,” “Sponge Bob,” “South Park,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and Warner Bros.’ “The Godfather.” “Harry Potter,” DC Universe, “Mortal Kombat,” “The Matrix,” “Rick and Morty,” and “Game of Thrones.”
This includes combining the new Paramount Games Studio with Warner Bros.’ in-house video game developers. Games, including Avalanche Software (the creators of “Hogwarts Legacy”), NetherRealm Studios, Rocksteady Studios, TT Games and the WB Games teams in Montreal and Boston.
In an email sent to staff Tuesday evening, obtained by VarietyGordon announced the following:
- Tony Driscoll will serve as president of games and experiences, in addition to leading company strategy and development.
- Josh Silverman will be president of global products and publishing
- Jim Sterner will remain as Chief Human Resources Officer and continue to lead HR Operations
- Jose Turkienicz will remain president of global operations, including real estate, purchasing and studio operations, “focused on simplifying processes and improving service to our businesses so teams can bring their ideas to market faster.”
- Jeff Silberman will serve as Gordon’s chief of staff in addition to remaining executive vice president of corporate strategy.
“We are investing in our future growth drivers alongside our core ambitions in television, cinema and direct-to-consumer: games, experiences, consumer products and publishing,” Gordon wrote. “These are core pillars of our strategy to build engagement and fandom across the physical and digital worlds. We want to meet consumers where they watch, play and interact. At the same time, we see opportunities to leverage DC Comics’ storytelling and expand our e-commerce offerings to connect fans with the brands they love.”
Games and experiences chief Driscoll (who was named head of Paramount’s new video game studio in June, a combination of Paramount and Skydance’s gaming assets) laid out his team’s early plans in his own memo.
“We immerse our guests in theme parks, resorts, restaurants, retail, studio tours and more. We immerse our players in action, adventure, combat, competition and creativity, from ‘Batman’ to ‘SpongeBob,'” Driscoll wrote. “And whatever your role on this team, you are a creator, a builder, an operator, and a steward of these worlds. We have the opportunity to create incredible spaces where friendships are made and communities thrive. This is only possible through your hard work and talent. Whether on Zoom or in person, my first priority in the coming weeks is to meet as many of you as possible, from Los Angeles to London, from Montreal to Tokyo and beyond.”
