‘SNL’ Host Shane Gillis Drops Uncensored F-Bomb During Skit – Apologizes for On-Air Gaffe

Living means living, Shane.

Shane Gillis accidentally dropped an F-bomb on “Saturday Night Live” while derailing a Dr. Seuss-inspired sketch — later apologizing for the gaffe on-air.

The 38-year-old comedian — who was hosting the NBC sketch show for the third time — played Zachary, a Seuss-like character tasked with stopping Sam-I-Am, played by Andrew Dismukes, from pestering his father, Mikey Day, with a platter of green eggs and ham.

“Bro, he’s not a starter. He said he don’t fuck up like them,” Gillis said, tensing up as he broke character.

Gillis surprised the crowd inside Studio 8H — including himself — and “SNL” cast members with the slip of the tongue.

“Oh no,” the comedian shouted before the audience burst out laughing.

Gillis got into a rhythm and broke the fourth wall, waving to the audience and pointing out the mistake to Dismukes and Day.

The blushing animator attempted to get the sketch back on track while struggling with a smile.

As the scene unfolded, Day also deviated from the script by kicking Gillis’ character out of the house.

“You’re a loser and you said a bad word,” Day joked.

“Yes, I did,” Gillis agreed, drawing another round of laughter from the crowd.

Gillis then issued a quick apology to the audience during the final show, bowing alongside musical guest Rosalia and the rest of the “SNL” cast.

“And uh, sorry about earlier, thank you guys so much. Have a good night,” the comedian said as he signed off.

Although Gillis clearly dropped an F-bomb during the live broadcast, “SNL” censored the remark in edited versions of the episode posted online.

“SNL,” officially rated TV-14, can avoid any FCC fines because it airs well beyond the 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. window where federal law prohibits the broadcast of obscene, indecent and profane material on radio or television.

Gillis isn’t the first “SNL” host to drop the F-bomb, as Sabrina Carpenter cursed the word twice while singing her hit song “Nobody’s Son” when she pulled double duty as host and musical guest on Oct. 18, 2025, EW reported.

Earlier in the night, Gillis was met with jeers from the audience for his description of women who frequent the gym during his monologue.

“I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t realize women dress like whores now,” Gillis said to a mix of laughs and groans from the audience.

“Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe it. Have you seen it, I’ve seen it,” he said, describing the sportswear.

“The shorts, have you seen the shorts. Those neons, they’re like an artificial bait color. The wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the asshole,” he said, eliciting a few laughs.

“And don’t watch, you’re not allowed to watch. For real, don’t watch because they’re filming. I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now,” Gillis added.
