Sophie Cunningham sends a message to WNBA players who hate women with her hat, Grumpy Prime and Maggie Sajak!
“Nightcaps” is a daily column that brings you the biggest sports, current affairs and culture stories that you may have missed while pretending to work at your desk. It operates Monday to Friday OutKick.com.
First Monday in October. We have football tonight. We have the baseball playoffs tonight. I went out and played a few golf balls at the range over the weekend. He might even play a round this week for the first time since July.
It will be nice to not have to bring a towel to the tee for each hole.
Who has it better than us? Person. And it comes from me! All my teams were beaten last week and I’m still excited to start a new week.
The Red Sox? Embarrassed.
Alligators? Really embarrassed.

Dolphins? Actually, not bad! Only lost by five to the Vikes. It would be nice to have a lead at some point this season, but I think that will be the goal this week.
For now? We are moving forward. Let’s go ride.
Welcome to a Monday Nightcaps – one where Sophie Cunningham turns her attention to Missouri football and wears a hat that sends a simple but direct message to WNBA girls who hate women.
You will see.
What else? I have more officiating drama from yesterday’s NFL slate, I’m still on the fence about Virginia Tech’s “missed” field goal Friday night, and things are going GREAT for Deion Sanders in Colorado.

And by that I mean it might not make it to Halloween. What a disgrace. Who could have seen it coming?!
OK, grab something big and strong – please do NOT make it a hurricane (watch out, Tuscaloosa!) – and settle in for a Monday “Cape”!

Sophie Cunningham destroyed my Florida Gators on Saturday
Did you all see that a tropical storm could hit the great state of Alabama for Saturday’s showdown with Georgia? True story. It’s the big SEC game this weekend, and Trump is supposed to be in town.
I’m not sure this will happen if these projections come true…
Would love to see a good old fashioned SEC game in the pouring rain on Saturday. I love offense. I love scoring. Believe me, I hammered it OVER on last weekend’s ‘Bama-Miss’ show. It was a state game and it was the easiest bet ever.
But still, I miss the days when we were treated to a good fight from 8 p.m. to 5 p.m. We rarely have more. Keep an eye out for this one before Saturday.
And that ends our weather portion of today’s lesson! You are welcome.
Now, let’s start the week with Sophie Cunningham wearing a simple “WOMAN” hat to Saturday’s prom in Columbia:

Things are not good in the west
What a hat. I can’t even imagine the insufferable Minnesota Lynx coach coming across these photos today. She would probably pass out.
“No Cis, just…” on the side, and “WOMAN” in front… just the perfect hat for Sophie Cunningham. Even in the offseason, they are three steps ahead of the other team. I have a feeling Sophie is about to take it to the next level over the next few months.
Stay tuned.

PS: Sophie’s Tigers absolutely steamrolled my Gators on Saturday. Typical disappointment game for a Florida team over which the national media has just spent a week drooling. It reminded me of the Dan Mullen years. Disgusting.
OK, let’s move on from one horrible Saturday performance to another and check in with Colorado State Athletics.
Hey, Deion Sanders…what’s wrong with you guys?
Harbaugh, Va. Tech and the refs are getting out of control
“You know what it is. If I say it, you’re going to do it, you know damn well what it is,” Sanders exclaimed after being asked what was wrong with this offense. “Write it yourselves… It’s blatant… I’d respect you a lot more if you said it yourself.”
Yeah, the wheels are pretty much completely off in Boulder. Remember a few years ago when Colorado briefly had the football world in its hands for about half a season? What a time to be alive.
The Buffs were bad last year, and they’re 2-3 so far this season. Sanders kicked three players from the team last week. His five-star QB mysteriously didn’t play last weekend. The offensive line can’t protect anyone, which has been a recurring theme under Sanders in Boulder.

It’s a mess…
But not as bad a mess as what’s happening in Los Angeles right now!
Let’s hurry up that Monday class and get ready for a big night of NFL baseball and football playoffs. First of all ? Los Angeles Chargers 0-4!
That’s not the loudest endorsement for Mike McDaniel I’ve ever seen…
Look, I watched McDaniel’s offenses for four years in Miami. Sometimes it was a fairy tale. The 2023 Miami Dolphins gave me the most enjoyable season I’ve ever had as a Dolphins fan, which isn’t saying much considering the organization has stunk my entire life.
When it works, it really works. But when this is not the case? It’s unfathomably miserable. This is where the Chargers are today.
There’s no way the Chargers can Jim Harbaugh, right?
… RIGHT?
Following? Some thoughts from the weekend, and they all involve the referees. First of all? These two moments from yesterday were crazy to watch and probably deserve a closer look:
I watched the Vikings live and couldn’t figure out what was going on. The guy was clearly being pushed towards him. This is going to happen in football games when you’re literally in the trenches with 10 other 300 pound dudes trying to kill each other.
Why is he so upset?
The referee who went after Trey McBride during the Cardinals game was savage. I’ve never seen this before. If a player did that to a referee, he would probably be suspended. He would definitely be fined for this wazoo. Let’s see if Goodell has what it takes to do the right thing here.
Finally, I know this happened last Friday, but I need everyone’s opinion on Friday night’s controversial field goal in Blacksburg.
Was it good or not?
I wrote about this Saturday morning and received dozens of responses. Everyone is on the fence. I still think he succeeded.
What do you see there? Let me know!
Okay, that’s all for today. Good start to the week. Good start to October. Let’s let this train roll until a great Monday evening.
