EXCLUSIVE: Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office and the third highest-grossing ever made worldwide, is to be re-released, it is said.
Sources are concerned that the film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland will contain additional footage that includes, but is not limited to, Rosario Dawson’s character, Claire Temple.
Temple is a nurse who gives medical aid to vigilantes and appeared in the first and second seasons of Marvel TV. Daredevil (2015-2016), Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and fallout The Defenders. In interviews, Dawson has mentioned that she filmed a scene for Brand new day, but it was cut. We understand there will be more surprises in the additional footage.
This news comes on the heels of Disney investing a lot of money last weekend with the re-release of the Russo brothers’ film. Avengers Endgame: Again, which grossed $86 million worldwide ($26 million domestically) and brought its current value to $2.885 billion, which remains the second highest-grossing film ever made. AvatarThat’s $2.92 billion. And this reissue was a marketing coup for Disney/Marvel studios. Avengers: Apocalypse in theaters December 18.
Spider-Man: A Whole New Day is still playing in theaters around the world, with a current worldwide gross of $2.495 billion as of yesterday (including $950.7 million from North America). Of course, Brand new day is also Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time, after dethroning 2021’s Spider–Man: No way home a few weeks ago ($1.92 billion).
We do not yet know when the reissue will take place. Logic dictates that Sony would have some sort of access to high-end large-format screens during a quiet period at the box office. In the past, the Culver City lot reissued No way home during Labor Day weekend 2022 (this brought in $9.3 million for this national run). Way back in the day, over Labor Day weekend 2002, Sony made a dual re-release of Sam Raimi’s original film. Spiderman of this summer with Men in Black II.
It’s a never-ending war between Marvel and Marvel. Spider-Man: A Whole New Daythe pursuit of Avengers: Endgame is not finished. The current gap in the world for Brand new day to top that last one is, wow, $389.7 million.
This summer, Holland and Zendaya also starred in Universal’s highest-grossing film ever, Christopher Nolan’s. The Odysseywhich is currently worth WW$1.75 billion.
Right away, Spider-Man: A Whole New Day weighs in with a run time of 2 hours and 25 minutes. Avengers: EndgameThe original cut was 3 hours and 1 minute. However, Bis included six minutes and 17 seconds of additional footage from doomsday for those who purchased tickets in Disney certified PLF format, InfinityVision. Those who viewed the picture on non-Imax/Infinity Vision screens only got a bonus of two minutes and 6 seconds.
