Starbucks Closures in 2026: 5 Oregon Coffee Shops Affected in Portland, Milwaukie, West Linn, The Dalles and Eugene
Starbucks announced Thursday that it plans to remove 250 cafes nationwide by the end of the week.
A handful of those closures took place in Oregon, including three in the Portland area. A shuttered coffee shop in Eugene was the first in the state to unionize.
It’s the Seattle-based coffee giant’s second wave of closures since last fall, both part of a turnaround plan led by newcomer Brian Niccol, who takes over as CEO in 2024. Last year, Starbucks closed nearly 500 U.S. cafes — 15 in Oregon — and laid off about 900 non-sales employees.

KGW was among the first to compile a list of closed Starbucks stores, using a combination of online reporting and the Starbucks store locator.
The following five Oregon coffee shops were included in the discounts:
- 2880 SE Powell Blvd., Portland
- 14585 SE McLoughlin Blvd., Milwaukie
- 22000 Willamette Drive, West Linn
- 2830 Willamette Street, Eugene
- 380 Lone Pine Boulevard, The Dalles
The Eugene location was the first in the state to unionize, voting unanimously in 2022 to join Starbucks Workers United, as KLCC reports. The now-closed cafe on Southeast Powell Boulevard was also unionized, among the first in Portland to do so.
Starbucks Workers United represents employees at nearly 700 stores across the United States, including several dozen in Oregon. The group has not yet reached an employment agreement with the company.
A Starbucks spokesperson told KLCC the closure was not in retaliation for unionization, but rather an evaluation of customer experience and financial performance, as outlined in a letter from Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams.
Union officials said 20 of the 250 Starbucks cafes closed this weekend were unionized.
