Capping off a week in which the NFL abused fines, Texas defensive end Colin Simmons did something that might have earned him a lifetime ban from 345 Park Avenue.
After one of his record five Longhorn sacks against Tennessee, Simmons celebrated by pretend to urinate on the field.
He seemed surprised when authorities penalized the move, with the final explanation being that Simmons was “faking using the toilet.”
Coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the situation after the 20-17 victory.
“We took it out“Sarkissian said, via Tyler Lauletta of Horrible announcementregarding the fact that Simmons, well, I took it out. “We resolved the issue and reinstated him. I’m not going to give him the death penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. We have to resolve this issue though. This can’t continue as we move forward.”
This part is reasonable and appropriate. Then things got a little complicated with Sargsyan.
“Unfortunately, in our society today, we live in the ‘look at me’ society,” Sargsyan said. “You all have your Twitter account, and as fast as you can type something because you want everyone to look at your account, and you get clicks. Well, that’s the world we live in. So we have to get there – it’s about the team and focusing on the team, and not so much ‘look at me’. So we’ll try to improve that, but five sacks was pretty cool today too.
Steve, don’t pretend to use the toilet on our leg and tell us it’s raining. The company didn’t make Simmons do something we’ve never seen a player do, because 99.999999 percent of all players know not to do it.
However, we would like to know how Sargsyan would explain a equally perverse celebration this was not penalized. Almost as much as we would like to hear the explanation of the fault.
