I don’t like this sound. No, it’s true. A TikTok video of Cruise went viral, showing him comforting a woman who was scrolling through the disaster on her phone.
Why was he comforting her? Because, judging by her posture alone, he thought she was in distress.
For what did she watch as if she were in distress? Because, from behind, doomscrolling makes you look like a depressed person in the middle of an unthinkable crisis.
I still don’t understand why we are discussing this. Because it made people love Cruise even more, that’s why. After the clip was shared on social media, someone commented on X: “I love this because no one can call it performative. Just a nice man looking out for another human.”
But she was quietly looking at her phone. Not sure what doomscrolling can do to you? Studies have shown that it can increase anxiety, depression and psychological distress and cause musculoskeletal discomfort.
Admittedly, it’s not great. This is why the UK government is considering restricting infinite scrolling apps, to reduce the damage caused by doomscrolling.
But these have not yet been applied? No. Currently, the best way to get out of a dire situation is to look so upset that a movie star is coming to see you. My thesis stands. Cruise saved this woman.

Was someone filming her? CCTV was filming her work. Presumably, she asked for it right after Cruise saved her life, to use it as proof of his miraculous ways.
Doesn’t Cruise is releasing a movie soon? He does it: Digger, his first foray into non-action, non-candor work in years. It’s a real risk for him.

Weird that there’s no footage of any of the other instances. No, but there are testimonies. On Instagram, someone claiming to be a former co-worker wrote: “He did the same thing to me on set!…I was working on camera and I just thought it was some kind of hold trying to get my attention and then finally, after several attempts, I turned around and realized that, oh, Tom was trying to get my attention.”
