The Nintendo Switch 2 has been hacked, while the first jailbreak opens the floodgates to modding, emulation and homebrew
A little over a year after its debut, and a few months after the discovery of a universal featTHE Nintendo Switch2 has been hacked, the first jailbreak option allowing users to mod games and run homebrew software on any current system. However, this is not a permanent jailbreak, as the exploit requires running a specific original Switch game every time you start the system.
This new exploit is a software-only tethered jailbreak for the Nintendo Switch2 which allows arbitrary native code to be executed on any system with the latest firmware. This means users can run homebrew, mods Nintendo Switch2 games, save save files and access most Nintendo Switch 2 peripherals. To demonstrate what can be achieved with this new jailbreak, the developer of the exploit has modified Mario Kart World by adding a few more characters, such as Pierre Griffin And Hatsune Miku.
Given that it usually takes years to find vulnerabilities to jailbreak any gaming system, this won’t surprise anyone but the first Nintendo Switch2 the jailbreak was developed using AI tools such as OpenAI Manuscript. The first step was to find a suitable backwards compatible original. Nintendo Switch game, then establish initial code execution via a 32-bit integer overflow bug in the targeted game’s board handling, then manipulate process permissions and hijack system loading routines until code execution is achieved.
For obvious reasons, we cannot share more details about this initially. Nintendo Switch2 jailbreak, but we had the chance to watch the video presenting the modded Mario Kart World and check the code repository so we can confirm it’s legitimate. However, since the developer has identified the Nintendo Switch game required for the exploit, it will likely take Nintendo little time to remove it from the eShop and fix the vulnerability.
However, a Nintendo Switch2 jailbreaking opens up a world of possibilities for the system. Given how vibrant the modding scene is for many PC games, including emulated titles, having mods for Nintendo Switch2 the games would be amazing. Just like having the opportunity to learn more about Nvidia DLSS implementation of the system, which turned out to be very different from the usual upscaler system supported by Nvidia RTX GPU.

And see what some people have done on the modified original Nintendo Switch consoles, including running PC versions of games such as Final Fantasy VII Remake surprisingly good on them, we could embark on many very interesting projects.
