‘The Watcher’ Season 2 Will Begin Production 4 Years After Season 1
Who watches “The Watcher?” » Netflix has announced that production on season 2 of the mystery horror series is set to begin this fall in New York.
Additionally, season 1 stars Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Margo Martindale and Isabel Gravitt will all return and reprise their respective roles.
The news comes about four years after the series’ first season aired in October 2022. Originally intended as a limited series, it was renewed for a second season on Netflix in November of the same year with fellow Ryan Murphy-Ian Brennan starrer show “Monster.” The fourth season of “Monster,” centered on Lizzie Borden, recently premiered.
Murphy and Brennan created “The Watcher,” with both serving as executive producers. Brennan serves as showrunner. Crystle Roberson Dorsey directs and executive produces, with Nissa Diederich, Karl Frankenfield, Scott Robertson, Todd Kubrak, Tanase Popa, Watts, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless also executive producing.
“The Watcher,” which is loosely based on the true story of a family who buys a new house only to start receiving mysterious letters from someone calling themselves The Watcher, proved to be a hit when it premiered. The series racked up an impressive 125 million hours watched in its first week on the streamer, rising to 148 million hours in its second week. It ultimately spent five weeks in Netflix’s global top 10 English-language TV shows.
It remains to be seen whether the show can repeat this performance in a long-delayed second season, especially given recent reports of Netflix shows losing significant viewership between their first and second seasons.
