Check your medicine cabinets: More than 3,700 bottles of blood pressure medications sold nationwide were recalled last month because the pills don’t break down and dissolve properly, according to a Food and Drug Administration enforcement report.

New Jersey-based Macleods Pharma USA Inc. issued the recall Oct. 7 for olmesartan medoxomil, amlodipine and hydrochlorothiazide tablets. On October 26, the recall was classified as Class II, meaning the pills could cause temporary or medically reversible health problems, but the likelihood of serious health consequences is considered low.

The pills ranged between 40 mg, 10 mg and 12.5 mg and were sold in bottles of 30 or 90 units. A total of 3,528 30-count bottles were recalled and 216 90-count bottles were recalled, the report said.

The reason for the recall, according to the report, was due to a “dissolution specification failure,” meaning the pills did not dissolve as required.

According to the Mayo Clinic, prescription medications are used to treat hypertension, or high blood pressure.

No further details were available. NBC Chicago has contacted Macleods Pharma for comment.
