For a long time, many have struggled with the idea of Brock Purdy being considered an elite quarterback.
But, after Purdy’s blistering start to 2026 for the 3-0 49ers, the man he beat in his first start in San Francisco in 2022 has no problem putting him in that group.
“Brock Purdy plays as well as anybody,” Brady said. “(He) should be considered in the first-tier QB discussions; at least he is in my eyes.”
Pressed on whether Purdy can now be considered “elite,” the seven-time Super Bowl champion responded: “It definitely looks like it. (He) plays the system, throws the ball accurately, no negative plays, gets his team in and out of good plays. I like the way he runs every game.”
This is a huge endorsement from the man considered the best quarterback to ever play the game, but Brady’s evaluation could come under scrutiny depending on how Purdy performs over the next two weeks.
If Purdy can continue to impress in these matchups amid a remarkable number of receiving arms injuries, then there will likely be plenty more ready to join Brady in giving Purdy the “elite” title.
