Wicker, which is a project on the 2026 movie schedule about a fisherwoman who marries and falls in love with a wicker man, doesn’t shy away from the couple’s intimate relationship. So, naturally, when a romance involves a human woman and a man made of such potentially thorny material, questions arise about whether she will have any splinters. Well, while the internet was wondering and debating it, we asked Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård about it.
People were worried about potential splinters the fisherwoman might get
The trailer for this film certainly highlights the point made by many critics in their reviews of Wickerthat is to say: it’s exciting. It’s spicy. It’s romantic. That harlequin romance cover poster proves it too. So, considering all of this, it makes sense that many of the comments on the film’s trailer were about whether the fisherman would get splinters from the wicker husband during their sex:
- First thought: wouldn’t she have splinters? 🤣🤣
- Aren’t we worried about splinters or…?
- Alexander Skarsgård? Bring on the shards :p
- It’s all fun and games until you get a glow.
- I hope she doesn’t get a splinter. lol
- Just the thought of the shards there, no dodging, thanks! 😫
- The bursts it will cause……
- Won’t it break? Ask for a friend.
Look, I think it’s fair to wonder. I’ve had wicker baskets before and they stole me. So, yes, I was also worried about the splinters the fisherman might get from making love to her wicker husband. Fortunately, that’s not the case, and we learned that when Alexander Skarsgård, who plays the Wicker Husband, and Olivia Coleman, who plays the Fisherwoman, settled the debate.
We asked Alexander Skarsgård and Olivia Colman about The Splinters
With showing Skarsgård and Colman the viral Wicker popcorn bucket that it looks like the husband’s wicker torsowe also asked about the dissidents, as they were also a topic of conversation online. Here’s how the Fisherwoman actress responded when CinemaBlend’s Hannah Saulic asked about them:
- Olivia Colman: You see, I think people have misunderstood wicker. They think about lighting some wood.
- Hannah Saulic: Okay, but I’ve had, like, a few wicker baskets that have already stung me.
- Olivia Colman: Oh really?
Saulic went on to say that when the fisherman and the wicker husband were kissing, she wondered if there would be any splinters involved. Immediately, Colman and Skarsgård explained why some real wicker baskets could cause splintering, but the wicker husband could not:
- Alexander Skarsgård: But-
- Olivia Colman: Craftsmanship.
- Alexander Skarsgård: But was this wicker basket made by Peter Dinklage?
- Hannah Saulic: It’s true. No, that wasn’t the case.
- Alexander Skarsgård: The greatest basket maker of all time.
- Hannah Saulic: So that’s the key.
Ultimately, both actors came to the conclusion that there was no split involved in their characters’ romance, as they both stated:
No chips.
This film tells the story of a wicker man who is brought to life by a basket maker. So it seems logical that whatever magic was making him a living being would also ensure that he wouldn’t cause bursts when things got hot and heavy.
Now that that’s out of the way, my new question is: How did the fact that Alexander Skarsgård was covered in this sort of thing impact the way the intimacy coordinator put these scenes together? This must have required some creativity that they had never used before. Anyway, that’s a question for another time.
For now, I’m just glad to know that the Fisherwoman didn’t get any splinters during the intimate moments of Wicker. And you can go see this fantastic romantic film in the cinema right now.
