With vaccine study, Trump administration’s abuses against Africa continue
A disturbing vaccine experiment backed by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has faced accusations of eugenics and drawn comparisons to the racist Tuskegee syphilis experiment — and yet it is progressing in the African nation of Guinea-Bissau.
Thus continues the Trump administration’s fundamentally racist strategy toward Africa, a continent that the president and his allies have sought to exploit and strip of its resources, from valuable minerals to health data.
I wrote in January about the Kennedy-backed experiment – in which thousands of African infants are denied the hepatitis B vaccine for the first six weeks after birth. At that time, the project was suspended by African officials due to outrage over the ethics of the project and its similarities to eugenics and the deadly Tuskegee Experiment, which saw hundreds of black men denied treatment for syphilis for decades in the name of medical experimentation, starting in the 1930s.
To be clear, reputable scientists have already asked questions about the safety of the hepatitis B vaccine in newborns and answered them in the affirmative.
