Secretary of Energy Chris Wright defended the president on Sunday that of Donald Trump diesel deal with Russia as an “incentive” for Moscow to “scale back” its war in Ukraine, adding that after four years of conflict, other attempts to bring the two sides to the table had failed.

“It’s a carrot to try to end a war. It’s not an economic lifeline for Russia,” Wright said on ABC’s “This Week.”

“President Asset “He’s not just going to throw up his hands and say, ‘Well, I guess we’ll never be able to stop him,'” he added, when asked why a “carrot” was the appropriate action at that moment.

“Obviously, it’s a tricky issue.”
