You can play football in Ocarina Of Time and… Ugh, it’s vibration coded
Updated 05/10/2026 at 4:46 p.m.: Well, as it was pointed out to me, apparently the code for this mod was written by genAI, more specifically Claude. The article exists now, without any backtracking, so I’m leaving it intact below as a caveat.
It was my fault and I should have understood that, but I think it’s worth emphasizing here how insidious this sort of thing can be. This information has not been disclosed anywhere in an obvious manner. I haven’t seen it in any other articles I’ve read about the game, nor in any social media posts or YouTube videos I’ve watched. There is no official website anywhere where such a thing could be mentioned. I even searched for “genAI” in Discord and found nothing. I finally saw a mention of it, about 200 comments on a YouTube video, and found the discussion buried deep in Discord modding when I searched for “coded vibe.”
It’s getting harder and harder to write about fan projects if you care about this issue, because of this sort of thing, and honestly I’ll probably do less of it as a result. Regardless, I’m sincerely sorry to people who have been reading my work for a long time and know how I feel about this stuff and felt misled. It definitely made me even more defensive than I already was.
Original story continues below:
THE Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time The remake comes out next month, and that gives us plenty of excuses to think about all the quirky, funny, and unique things about the nearly 30-year-old original. I’ve written before about its weird characters and how great Gerudo Valley’s theme is, but today a YouTube recommendation presented me with a romhack of the original. Ocarina of time it’s one of the smartest commitments to a play on words I’ve seen in a while.
Presentation…Soccerina of time:
Haha, yeah! This is the casting of Ocarina of time play football! This is a romhack developed by shonj352 that takes place in the game world of Ocarina of time and allows you to choose from eight different teams consisting of Ocarina characters and then, well, do that! The teams include big names like Kakariko City, Zora United and Kokiri FC. And there are also different terrains to play on, like the one above in Kokiri Forest and this one in Gerudo Town:
I love how all these little guys are running around so awkwardly. There are also some pretty clever animations here, like the one shown above where one player gets injured and two others carry him away on a stretcher. My goodness, Dampe in the goal makes me laugh, as does seeing the construction workers rushing across the pitch like that. Incredible stuff.
Apparently there are other features as well, beyond small melee games, like a character creator mode, a league mode, selectable difficulty options, and a manager mode in which you simply control players’ tactics instead of individual team members. And the most recent patch notes include bizarre things like “trial and prison systems,” “new career-ending injuries,” and even custom music. Why…why can you go to jail?!
This is still a brand new personal project for shonj352, so the main way to get more information if you want is through the Hylian Modding Discord. If you’re feeling in the spirit of Hyrule as the remake’s release nears but don’t want an adventure game, this seems like a pretty funny and fun compromise to play with.
