Former NFL coach Jon Gruden energizes Ohio rally crowd
Former NFL coach Jon Gruden is known for his fiery speeches on the football field. On Saturday night, he brought the same energy to a political rally in Ohio.
Gruden joined President Donald Trump, U.S. Sen. Jon Husted and Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy at an event in Ohio. The Super Bowl-winning coach was introduced to the crowd by Husted, a longtime friend and former University of Dayton teammate.
During the rally, Trump pointed the finger at Gruden as a protester was removed from the venue. Trump joked that Gruden saw a crowd with more energy than some football games. This comment sparked a reaction among rally attendees.
When Gruden spoke, he emphasized his Ohio roots. He told the crowd that his parents were from Cleveland, that he was born in Sandusky and that he attended the University of Dayton. The audience responded with loud cheers.
Gruden later endorsed Husted, praising his former teammate’s work ethic, leadership and tenacity. He also encouraged his supporters to vote as early voting begins in Ohio.
To many in attendance, it sounded less like a political speech and more like a football locker room speech from one of the NFL’s most recognizable former coaches.
