Grand Theft Auto always pushes the boundaries when it comes to adult content, but GTA 6 goes even further, according to its PEGI 18 rating.
rock star
In a detailed note now deleted for the next Grand Theft Auto 6, The Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) site briefly released its PEGI 18 rating for the game, displaying many of the reasons why it received the “no children” rating.
This is information that Rockstar does not exactly broadcast in its GTA6 marketing material right now, and that might have something to do with why it was removed, considering we’re still a month and a half away from release.
Among the information, which can still be viewed thanks to screenshots of the original:
- GTA6 Players can harm all other characters in the game, including civilians and authorities.
- The violence has a high degree of realism, with some weapons causing more visible damage such as decapitation and dismemberment.
- Drug use is common and the player may consume drugs from their inventory themselves. Concretely, players can carry cocaine and snort it.
- There are sex scenes and beyond that, fetish sex scenes.
- There is also some nudity, and strip clubs are specifically mentioned where the player can “run their hands over the dancers’ breasts and buttocks”.
- Pets are in the game and can be harmed by the player, but this “does not produce the same level of injury” as human players.
- The game frequently features foul language and “discriminatory” language.
- And you can buy in-game items with real money (this seems to be what players are most concerned about).
A PEGI 18 classification for GTA6 This is no surprise, and there is no doubt that the game will be rated M for Mature by the ESRB in the United States. Many of these categories aren’t a big surprise, considering the game’s history, particularly violence against police and some level of nudity and drug use. Although things seem to go a little further, such as being able to consume cocaine at any time and groping strippers. It goes without saying that Rockstar wants to push the boundaries with each new installment, and it seems like they’ve done that here.
Considering the treatment of the past Grand Theft Auto by the media and even by the government, it sometimes goes without saying that GTA6 will experience some level of controversy upon release for one, some, or all of the inclusions listed above. But as the PEGI 18 rating indicates, this is a game intended for adults, not children, and parents should use discretion if purchasing for their children. GTA6 or let them play elsewhere. It’s not like it’s not labeled and the contents are clearly stated.
