Russia to intensify strikes against Ukraine after Zelensky interview
Russia will intensify its strikes on kyiv and other regions of Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday, responding to an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which he promised to intensify attacks on Russian refineries.
The ministry said Russian forces would intensify attacks on military installations, defense industry sites and associated infrastructure in kyiv and elsewhere in Ukraine.
Zelensky told Reuters in an interview published on Saturday that Ukraine double the bet on the attack on Russian oil refineries in response to a new policy of airstrikes by Moscow aimed at forcing the population to abandon kyiv and other cities, but which will not target civilians.
Russia has recently intensified its strikes against infrastructure in the Ukrainian capital, including bridges over the Dnipro River. The intensification of the campaign has seriously disrupted the lives of the capital’s 3 million residents as the harsh winter months approach.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its recent strikes on kyiv and other Ukrainian regions were a response to what it described as kyiv’s attacks on civilian targets in Russia.
Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians.
A message from the Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We face unprecedented challenges. Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has designated The Moscow Times an “undesirable” organization, criminalizing our work and exposing our staff to legal action. This follows our earlier unfair labeling as a “foreign agent.”
These actions constitute a direct attempt to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities say our work “discredits the decisions of Russian leaders.” We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate and unbiased information about Russia.
We, the Moscow Times journalists, refuse to remain silent. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes all the difference. If you can, please support us monthly from just $2. Implementation is quick and each contribution has a significant impact.
By supporting the Moscow Times, you are defending open and independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for being by our side.
