Texas monitors Gulf as Tropical Depression 9 forms
HOUSTON – Texas has its eyes on the southern Gulf, where Tropical Depression 9 formed Tuesday.
What we know:
The system, designated Invest 92L, is located in the Bay of Campeche.
Tropical Depression 9 will remain east of Texas, according to the National Hurricane Center. It is expected to come ashore along the northern Gulf Coast later this week.

Tropical Depression 9 is expected to become Tropical Storm Isaias by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, then become the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season by Thursday.
What does Tropical Depression 9 mean for Texas?
Most computer forecast models agree that Tropical Depression 9 will not be a big problem for Texas. However, any time there is a tropical system in the Gulf, it is worth monitoring closely.

A tropical system doesn’t have to make landfall to cause problems for the Texas coast. With a system in the Gulf, rip currents and coastal flooding can become problems in addition to the heavy rain and gusty winds they can bring.
The National Weather Service office in Corpus Christi has issued a coastal flooding advisory for the barrier islands until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Forecasters said water could be pushed up to beach dunes on Aransas, Kleberg, Nueces and Calhoun islands. This can lead to rough driving and blocked roads.
Parts of the Texas coast will also see increased precipitation chances this weekend as the system moves toward the northern Gulf Coast, but amounts appear manageable at this time.
