The No. 23 Houston Cougars open the season against Oregon State at TDECU Stadium.

When: 11 a.m. Saturday.
TV: The game will be televised on ESPN with Anish Shroff (play-by-play), Andre Ware (analyst) and Morgan Uber (sideline reporter).
Radio: KPRC 950 AM with Kevin Eschenfelder, Ted Pardee and Jeremy Branham. Matt Thomas will host the pregame show beginning at 10 a.m. The game is also streamed on The Varsity Network app and SiriusXM (channels 138 or 199).

Series history: Houston leads 3-1.
Last meeting: Houston won 27-24 in overtime Sept. 26, 2025, in Corvallis, Ore. 

About Oregon State Beavers 

2025 Record: 2-10.
Coach: JaMarcus Shephard (first season as a head coach).

Shephard was named the Beavers’ head coach last November after spending two seasons at Alabama as assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator. … This marks the first season of the reconstituted Pac-12c which includes Oregon State and Washington State along with Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State. … The Beavers have lost nine consecutive road games. … Braden Atkinson was named the starting quarterback, beating out incumbent Maalik Murphy. Atkinson threw for 3,596 yards and 34 touchdowns at Mercer last season.  He won the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in the FCS. This marks the eighth consecutive season opener in which the Beavers have featured a different starting quarterback. … Oregon State begins the season against two ranked opponents – No. 23 Houston and No. 12 Texas Tech – for just the fifth time since the Associated Press poll began in 1936. … Linebacker Aiden Sullivan, who was second on the team with 72 tackles last season, was a preseason first-team All-Pac-12 selection. … Shephard admitted in August there could be some growing pains for the Beavers. “I’m letting you know, just so you know, guys, there’s gonna be some adversity this year,” he told Oregon State reporters. … Defensive back Jaheim Patterson and offensive lineman Van Wells received a temporary restraining order Tuesday to be eligible to start the season, the Oregonian reported. Walls played at Houston’s C.E. King.
