This marks the eighth consecutive season opener in which the Beavers have featured a different starting quarterback. … Oregon State begins the season against two ranked opponents – No. 23 Houston and No. 12 Texas Tech – for just the fifth time since the Associated Press poll began in 1936. … Linebacker Aiden Sullivan, who was second on the team with 72 tackles last season, was a preseason first-team All-Pac-12 selection. … Shephard admitted in August there could be some growing pains for the Beavers. “I’m letting you know, just so you know, guys, there’s gonna be some adversity this year,” he told Oregon State reporters. … Defensive back Jaheim Patterson and offensive lineman Van Wells received a temporary restraining order Tuesday to be eligible to start the season, the Oregonian reported.
